TrippworX Design Studio is the art studio of Tripp Gregson.  Tripp makes sculptural and functional art using recycled signage.  Most of these signs are interstate advertising signs - those like one might see near an exit pointing them toward restaurants, gas stations, or lodging.  He also uses municipal signage like stop signs or speed limit signs, as well as public park or garage signage.  Tripp started his art career making furniture from recycled wood, mainly scavenged from derelict houses & barns.  Along the way he was commissioned to make a colorful bookcase from the old wood, and chose a traffic sign to be the backboard.  The use of signage evolved from there, and eventually he was making tables, mirrors, briefcases, and even purses from these recycled signs.  As demand for his work grew, he acquired the equipment necessary to effectively cut this reflectorized aluminum signage. His desire to push the limits of this raw material led him to refine his cutting techniques and to design and fashion ever more complex shapes as he developed the Jazz Series of functional art.  In 2008, he began experimenting with making sculptural pieces and the Fish-Out-of-Water Series was born, soon to be followed by the Wild Things Series.  Many of his Fish-Out-of-Water sculptures exhibit a curious combination of organic and mechanical forms, what Gregson calls mechano-organic.
Over the years, the TrippworX business has focused on making and selling his unique art to art galleries coast to coast, as well as in Canada and the Caribbean.  The largest segment of his art has been one-of-a-kind sculptures that are individually signed and named, such as the majority of those shown Fish-Out-of-Water and Wild Things series.  The idea is that each sculpture is a collector's item, so they are all recorded and cataloged to show who purchased it and where it went.  Tripp enjoys imagining the day when these fish may be on the master-list of a museum.
Currently Tripp is represented in a handful of select art galleries, but is focusing on making and selling his art to individual collectors through the web.  He resides in central North Carolina, and enjoys honing his art, finding new inspiration, and designing new pieces.
